ABOUT:Lovely little find here, this came from France. This is an antique SILVERPLATED victorian Art Nouveau mini Aide Memoire or dance card for a chatelaine. Very beautiful repousse design with holly leaves and berries on the front and possibly thistle on the back. It has a crest of ND with an anchor and a crown which I am guessing could have been a souvenir from Notre Dame since it came from France. I did some research and found one other piece described as fro...m Notre Dame with the same ND logo but I am not 100% certain so please see photos closely.The hinge is still nice and tight, when the pencil is removed, the piece snaps open quickly to reveal the pad of paper within. The pencil is mechanical and winds up and down, it currently does not have any lead in it but I assume some could easily be added. No writing on any of the pages and it doesn't look like any pages are missing so it seems it was not used. Very little silverplate loss, just a few of the raised areas have worn revealing brass underneath which provides a nice age appropriate patina. Dates to the turn of the century.NO MONOGRAMS on it. Very pretty highly detailed repousse pattern.MEASUREMENTS:The booklet is smaller than some of the others out there, it measures 2" by about 1 3/8" IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:Please note this is in estate condition with some stubborn tarnish spots but I didn't want to polish it too agressively and risk wearing the silverplate. There is one rough area in the lower left hand corner of the photos that I pointed to in photos, not sure if it is a rust spot or stubborn tarnish. Some surface scratching and a few areas where the warmer underlying metal is showing from silverplate loss.When you spin the pencil the insert comes up and down but it does not have any lead. The pages are discolored but many pages have no writing in them. I don't see any deep dings or dents. Very sturdy piece, but please note this is not a mint condition item.
