Up for auction is yet another couple of items from my now-dwindling Daimler Ferret / British Army collectibles. The first item you see is another British Army GREATCOAT, as carried on the Daimler Ferret as well as many other British Military vehicles and also issued to ground troops. I had forgotten I had another one, almost identical to the one I sold last week. The odd thing about these greatcoats is that they are kinda hard to get, at leas...t they were, don't know about now. Never in my life have a ever come across a coat the equal of this one, I mean, sheesh, it weighs a TON! Seriously, it weighs almost a full 7 pounds! I think it's made of 100% wool and is dated 1952, and is of the "1951 Pattern, " the very same year as the Daimler Ferret armored car first appeared! Size is listed as "5, " see the photo of the tag. This coat has genuine British Army buttons, as you'd expect. Unlike the first coat I sold, this one has all metal gold colored buttons, unsure of the unit depicted but as you can see it shows a cannon and my guess is Royal Artillery Corp? Those of you who know me know that I've made a hobby of collecting Ferret equipment and if you look at the scan of the stowage diagram it shows that the Ferret was issued 3 of these greatcoats, and carried in the right-side stowage bin. I'm not sure, but I think I got this one from a guy by the name of Tom Thompson, who owned Tanks-A-Lot in New Jersey, about 20 years ago. The entire time I owned it, it has been hung up in my closet. Tom has been deceased quite a while now, like Joe Francis of Western Resources fame. Anyway, this greatcoat appears to be almost-new. Included with this auction is a group of British Army uniform buttons of various units, including Royal Armoured Corp, Royal Military Police, and others. There is a total of 14 buttons is this batch and they were in the left side pocket of the coat when I got it.
