Taken about 1710 for a legal proceeding concerning land ownership, this unsigned deposition of John Key, Kay, or McKay details 70 acres of land granted by the Town of Kittery (Maine) to Andrew Soule or Soules in the 17th century; it mentions the tract bordering land of John Rdail or Roal, John? Wincoll, ? Worfson or Wolfson,  and Andrew Bait. John Key (1633-1718) was a Scottish soldier captured at the Battle of Dunbar, sold into 7 years indentured servitude in New Englan...d, and later captured by Indians with his son and daughter about 1693. The unsigned and undated 6 by 6" deposition mentions him being about 80 years old. As such, he would have been one of few who around 1710 would remember land ownership in the 1670s.
