This is a used antique farm or ranch tool. This is a cast iron wire fence tightner. It could have seen use as an in-line tightner to remove slack from a single line of a barbed wire fence. Tool would have been attached to post by reel end with smooth wire. Two lines of smooth wire would have been threaded through the knobs on each side. The knobs would keep the wires parallel. The winch would allow slack to be increased or decreased. A shuttle style fence making machine, would have... twisted each set of parallel lines, a metal or wood stay inserted ...... tool slid down the lines, and another stay inserted. This tool is 7" in length and 4" in width. Side ratchet dog is still in place. Tool is shown in Smith & Smith's Collectors Guide for Fencing Tools at No. 638. Tool is fully operational, and in good used condition. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
