Pepperrell was a Major General during the French and Indian Wars. He commanded at the victorious siege of Louisbourg, was made a baronet, and later was made responsible for the defence of the Maine and New Hampshire frontier. He died in 1759, having just attained the rank of Lieutenant-General.
