*Very Rare* 1963 Gibson RB-170 5-String Open Back Banjo.
This is a very rare and high quality vintage banjo from Gibson. With most of the parts being original, this is an extremely uncommon find. It is said that Steve Martin keeps one of this model to use for frailing. It is heavy and has a beautiful, rich tone. I am selling because I am moving across the country and need to unload quite a few items. It is in remarkable condition considering its age and is ready to play.
I ...will include the original Gibson case (I did get a new handle put on it in 2013). The case isn't in amazing shape but it is still absolutely usable.
The banjo has an 11" pot, friction tuners (4 of which I think are original with the 5th string tuner being a replacement), and a bridge I must assume is not original. The frets are in excellent condition and the neck on the banjo is perfectly straight. Keep in mind that this is NOT a long neck banjo like the more common RB-175.
Shipping is a bit pricey, but I want to make sure it gets to the buyer in excellent shape. There aren't many playable '63 RB-170s around anymore.
