Rare Antique 1881 H/M Sterling Silver Enamel Racing Theme Watch Chain VestaThis is a wonderful collectors vesta of outstanding quality. It is hallmarked sterling silver; Birmingham 1881. The maker’s mark is “J.H.T” (un-identified – possible John Hilliard & Thomason). It is also stamped with a registration kite mark giving the details of its manufacture.The vesta is in the shape of a lucky horse shoe with the shoe forming its decorative border. The centre is hand enamelled with... a picture of a racing horse with jockey in dressed blue and white silks. The striking groove is found on the opening flap at the base of the shoe. It has a good sized jump ring at the top to attach it to a silver pocket watch chain. It is in very good antique condition with commensurate light wear and a good warm patina. There is a small chip to the enamel in at the bottom left hand corner; it doesn’t detract and looks to be part of the scene.
