Gorgous Antique Georgian Sampler, with alphabet, verse, borders, and spot motifs, and garden scene, created by 8 year old Mary Bethiar Stote in 1813, period framed complete with old glass.
A very pretty sampler with lots of interesting features, and very fine, neat stitch work throughout for such a young child. Maria has carefully worked alphabets and border pattern practice in the... upper quarter of the sampler, followed in the second quarter by a verse about the merits of industry, flanked either side by a tree, and border pattern below.
" Industry taught in early days Not only gains the Parents praise But gives us pleasure when we view The works that innocence can do"
In the third quarter she has worked fine symmetrical spot motifs of a bird in a tree, butterfly, flowers, flowers in an urn, with a central basket of flowers.
The final quarter is given over to her signing her details in a cartouche:
"Mary Bethiar Stote Aged 8 Years 1813"
Intricately stitched trees, flowers in urns, butterflies, lions, birds, and a crown form a delightful grass garden type scene to complete her work.
Most impressive work from such a young hand.
Period framed and glazed, sound, with patina commensurate with age. 206 years old.Old glass adds to the charm of this pretty sampler.

A lovely sampler ready to hang and enjoy.It would make a great present for a special occasion or an interesting addition to a sampler collection.
Size approx: 40.5 x 40.5 cms ind frame.
I will pack very well, and will tape the glass prior to transit but cannot guarantee glass during transit. Please message me prior to dispatch if you would prefer it taken out for posting.
