Front caption reads, "Waterloo. WellingtonCommander in Chief of the Allied ForcesSir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, Prince of Waterloo, bornin 1769. Sublieutenant at 18. Colonel at 27 (1796) he fought first inIndia, then in 1808 was nominated General and placed at the head of an Army Corpsoperating... in Portugal against Napoleon. He drove the French out of Portugal, then fromSpain and in 1814 he invaded the south of France. In 1815 appointed Commandar-in-Chiefin Belgium he directed the operations of the Allies. Englis, Dutch-Belgians and Prussians againstthe Emperor. After Waterloo he made a triumphal entry into England and died, loaded withhonours, at the age of 83 on 14 sept 1852."
