He went to college at Saint Mary's College of California. He played major league baseball from 1909 to 1925 as outfielder for the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox, appeared in the 1912, 1915, 1916 and 1918 World Series, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. May 30, 1913 Hooper became the first player to hit a home run to lead off both games of a doubleheader. Following his retirement from baseball he moved to Capitola, California where he was appointed Postmaster by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1933, holding the position for 24 years.Tristram E Speaker (The Grey Eagle or Spoke) was born in 1888 in Hubbard, TX and died in 1958 in Lake Whitney, TX. He went to college at Texas Wesleyan University. He played major league baseball from 1907 to 1928 as outfielder for the Boston Americans/Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, and the Philadelphia Athletics, appeared in the 1912, 1915 and 1920 World Series, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. George Edward Lewis was born in San Francisco, CA and died in 1979 in Salem, NH. He went to college at Saint Mary's College of California. He played major league baseball from 1910 to 1921 as outfielder for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and the Washington Senators, and appeared in the 1912, 1915 and 1916 World Series. During his tenure in Boston patrolling left field, Fenway Park featured a ten-foot-high mound that formed an incline in front of the left field wall, now better know as the Green Monster. The young outfielder mastered the incline to such an extent that it was nicknamed "Duffy's Cliff." Sports cartoons of the period often depicted him as a mountain climber making catches amid sheep and snowcaps. The mound was eventually reduced in 1934, long after Lewis had left the Sox, and was not completely eliminated until the field underwent a major renovation following the 2004 season. Duffy Lewis was a coach with the Boston Braves from 1931-35 and then worked as their travelling secretary from 1936-65.SKU: GBNHY0123 Check out my eBay Store for more items like this:The Cat's Pajamas CollectiblesShipping / Insurance: All items will be securely packaged to ensure they are not damaged in shipping and will be marked or stamped "DO NOT BEND" to discourage postmen from shoving them into small P.O. or mail boxes.
