This versatile sterling silver table would have been designed to hold cards, cigarettes, or any other treasured items. It is simply marked “BANGKOK STERLING”. From style and previous examples, it most likely dates to the 1930s art deco era through to the 1950s when the country became known as Thailand. The lid is niello decorated with two Thai deities clashing in the heavens; no doubt an allegory from religious or folk law. The sides are un-decorated and have a polished silver fin...ish. It is lined with high polished shellacked wood.It is in excellent vintage condition; it has an impact dent to the lower right corner of its lid that adds maturity rather than detracts; a little wear and a lovely warm patina.
