Martin saxophones made by the master craftspeople in Elkhart, Indiana have a well earned excellent reputation as true quality horns. Martin made two versions of the"Imperial" saxophones in different decades. The earlier ones were designed and marketed for accomplished musicians in the 1930s. The second version Imperials were made in the late 1960s to mid 1970s and were created for the student market. This Martin is one of those latter horns that were marketed to... beginner/intermediate student musicians.
This Alto sax is roughly 50 +/- years old and is in good condition for a horn that age. As described in the "Condition" segment of this listing, the mechanicals are in pretty good shape, and most of the pads appear in good condition except for a few that have seen much better days. Cosmetically, there are a few dings/small dents on the horn and some wear on the lacquer which is to be expected in the 50 year-old student horn. None of these cosmetic issues impair the tonal qualities that Martins were known for.
The sax comes with an alto mouthpiece and ligature, a shag swab that prevents condensation from accumulating in the stem, and a sax gig bag. Today's student saxophonist could benefit from the heritage of a well designed and well built instrument that has already served several students well.
