National Recovery Act (NRA) & Prohibition Era
Mechanical Mantel Clock
This rare depression era figural clock measures approximately 13" tall x 11" wide x 3-1/2" thick.
This pot metal clock has a bronze finish and depicts a man, woman and child holding an NRA ribbon over an eagle, over a city scene and reads : "WE DO OUR PART". The back is stamped : "GIBRALTAR ELECTRIC CLOCK CO. INC. JERSEY ...CITY N.J. PAT. PEND. MODEL 175".
The face of the clock shows an animated bartender shaking a cocktail (arm moves up and down when you start the clock by hand). The face is marked "MADE IN U.S.A. 1933" and "UNITED ELECTRIC CLOCK CORP BROOKLYN N.Y.". The back of the clock is stamped "Hand Set", "S" & "F" and "Wind".
CONDITION: Clock is a little dusty and shows spots of minor "tarnish", but it has NO major defects. The wind-up clocks runs when started by hand for approximately 60 minutes (by reaching under the base and twirling the mechanism).
VERY NICE & RARE PIECE OF HISTORY!
