An interesting autograph letter from a son to his parents, members of a prominent and important Newport, Rhode Island, family. The letter is dated Charleston, South Carolina, April 14, 1805, from young James Gould addressed to his father, also named James Gould, at 176 Thames Street, Newport, Rhode Island. He is apparently spending the winter trying to make his own living in the South, and seems content but is planning to make his way north in a few weeks. Needs careful reading.....
