Antique Noritake Round Butter Dish/Cover/Strainer; Christmas Ball Pattern
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:63113842 | Brand: Noritake |
Object Type: Covered Butter Dish |
The lovely Christmas Ball pattern 5.5” round handled butter dish with cover and strainer comes with an “extra” large saucer (6”) which is included to be used as an under plate. (The saucer can also be used as an under plate for a creamer if you have one.) The handled round dish itself, without strainer, can be used for multiple purposes. The pieces are white porcelain with pale yellow/cream bo...rders, hand painted with heavy 24K gold flowers and scrolls, made in Japan. The pattern is known as the Christmas Ball Pattern because the trim resembles Christmas balls. (The china does look beautiful on a holiday table, but equally exquisite all year long.). The Christmas Ball Pattern is known as #175 or #16034. The butter dish, which belonged to my grandmother, dates to the 1940’s or before and was used only on special occasions. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or gilt loss. The pattern, made from 1906 to 1992, except for the war years, is known to be one of the most beautiful china sets made by Noritake. The green M back stamp designates 1906 to 1940 and refers to the Morimura brothers who helped begin the company. I have other pieces of this pattern listed on eBay.
