In terms of its design, materials, craftsmanship, size, condition and especially performance, it wants for NOTHING.  It's the rare piece in this style that was made fully hand-forged with integral blade/bolster/tang construction and in the process offers us a master class in how a truly great knife ought to be made.  Its blade is RAZOR sharp and was made from the finest carbon tool steel. Handle is beautifully-grained rosewood scales hafted over a full and tapered tang with six small brass pins, as warm to the touch and easy on the eyes, nicely sculpted to a round and pleasing curvature. Has the old Lamson & Goodnow logo of the continental USA stamped into the blade, as you can see in the photos.  It was made sometime in the late early 1900's in Shelbourne Falls, Massachusetts and remains in astonishingly fine condition, retaining much of its original factory shine.  We have had it professionally sharpened for this sale to a WICKEDLY razor sharp edge, the likes of which will thrill even the most jaded user. Though it appears to be stainless steel, it is, in fact, some of the finest carbon steel ever forged for a blade in the USA, finished to a degree of fineness and detail that is unknown in the modern marketplace of cutlery. As you can see this blade has been beautifully polished and ground, hammered WHISPER thin by the time it gets to the point, with just the right degree of flexibility built into it. It was forged in the shape of what's called alternately a ham knife, a roast knife, a kebab knife, a salmon knife, a baker's sheet cake knife, but nowadays usually a round-tip master carving knife. Its numerous uses in any gourmet kitchen, amateur or professional only multiply its value, and whatever tasks you may put it to will multiply your satisfaction with it. With a single stroke, it's capable of carving or slicing whatever is foolish enough to get in its way. It will shave PAPER-thin slices of turkey, roasts, hams or anything else, and its rounded tip is perfect for serving from a carving station.  With its deeply lustrous and beautifully grained rosewood handle, it's warm to the touch and the piece enjoys an extra measure of refinement that would look appropriately spiffy at even the most elegant table. A few more elements of its design and construction elevate it above the merely extraordinary to the sublime. For one, it is HUGE, measuring 20.25" long altogether with a 14.25" blade that is 1-3/8" wide--the largest size the company made. It's MORE than a match for even your largest roast, even if you're a Roman Caesar supping on roasted ox. If you've never used a carbon steel knife before, you're in for a treat. Experienced chefs know that only a true carbon steel blade can consistently attain the razor-sharp edge that makes cooking a true pleasure.  As with all carbon steel blades you must wipe the knife after every use to avoid stains and rusting, but will be richly rewarded with superior performance and ease of edge maintenance.  Its overall balance in the hand is truly remarkable. When you hold a knife like this it feels like an extension of your hand, not like something you're simply holding. An outstanding piece in every respect for use or display and a true find for the serious knife-o-phile. You can't buy these in stores any more and it's been MANY years since knives like this were available ANYwhere. Here's your chance to pick up one of the best investments any chef or serious cook can make with a superb knife that demonstrates how American makers, when they put their minds to it, could produce knives as fine or better than anyone. An instant hierloom for user and collector alike. IMPORTANT!!! Terms of SaleBy bidding or buying, you certify that you are above 18 years of age and that you have read and agree to all terms of sale as detailed below.  If you have any questions, please email prior to bidding or buying.  Our store's inventory is searchable using the search field or may be browsed by clicking on categories, with each option found on the left side of the store's homepage.  See some of the finest knives and other related goodies on ebay!  Don't see it or can't find what you're looking for?  Just email--we have THOUSANDS of knives but not enough time to post them all, so we may have what you need and we always take requests very seriously. All images and descriptions are copyrighted, and we aggressively pursue legal remedy as well as ebay's rules against plagiarizing them.  It's wrong--it's STEALING--and you WILL be turned in to us by one of the legion of our loyal customers, who inevitably see your plagiarism and notify us about it.  All items come from a smoke-free home. RETURN POLICY:Your intention to return MUST be emailed to us within 72 hours of receipt of your item and item MUST be received within 14 days, as determined by Delivery Confirmation delivery time posted on the USPS website.  All returned items must be in the same, saleable and unused condition as when shipped, with all original packaging and/or with all tags attached where applicable.  There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.SHIPPING:  NO ONE likes the cost of shipping.  We do whatever we can to minimize your shipping costs on multiple purchases, and in most cases, combining multiple wins will save BIG, often shipping two or more items for the cost of one.  In order to streamline the process, we will provide a flat, upfront shipping rate in our auctions whenever possible for all U.S. buyers.  IN MOST CASES ACTUAL SHIPPING WILL BE LOWER THAN WHAT WE CHARGE;  this is the way we pay our teenage neighbor to pack and ship our ebay items (he keeps the difference).  If you dislike this or find this unfair, PLEASE shop elsewhere;  we only want happy customers and it's our feeling that no one should be able to claim dissatisfaction with this policy, since we're stating it up front.  It's not an attempt to profit, simply the only way my elderly bones can continue to offer so many items.  Please keep in mind, too, that our prices for shipping in USA always INCLUDE insurance AND Delivery Confirmation unless otherwise stated (sorry, no exceptions to this.).  WE SELF-INSURE using our business policy.  Items lost or damaged in transit require buyer to file an affidavit for our insurance policy via a claim form similar to the U.S. Post Office or UPS insurance claim forms.  I will gladly send you the forms necessary to file.  We usually ship on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but sometimes our teenage packaging guy may have an exam, or he gets to the P.O. late, so again, we ask you in advance to please forgive our humanity.  Usually, we sell knives, not human organs for transplantation, so time really shouldn't be too critical, but if you have special needs, please email us prior to bidding.  We take customer service very seriously and want to do whatever it takes to meet your needs.  If you're not in total agreement with us here or disagree for any reason, we can only urge that you PLEASE shop elsewhere.INTERNATIONAL: The U.S. Post office has recently raised all international shipping rates, and so must we.  NO ONE likes this but all terms of shipping are NON-NEGOTABLE.  Int'l shipping rates posted in our ads include a minimum $5.00 handling (sorry, even Canada, due to tedious Customs forms and Post Office procedures) to cost of actual shipping, with acceptable payment on international transactions in the form of paypal only.  If you can only pay via some other method, email us prior to bidding.  International packages will be calculated on the basis of a MINIMUM ONE POUND weight.  International packages cannot be insured and we cannot be held responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit (we pack very well, but shipping overseas is strictly at buyer's risk).  Want tracking?  You will have to pay an additional $13.65 for Registered Mail or you may upgrade to the option of Express Mail International. IMPORTANT:  After TWELVE YEARS of doing everything we could to hold the line on int'l. shipping costs, we have taken our LAST loss, so we've been forced to implement a new policy in which Shipping costs on ANY international parcel sold for over $75 will now include a required $13.65 Registered Mail fee in order to make your purchase trackable.  This is 100% non-negotiable.  The cost will be factored into the posted shipping costs of any item that STARTS at $75 or more, but if you purchase several items, the charge will have to be added at the end.  Again, this is NON-NEGOTIABLE.We have NO control of your parcel once it has been shipped, and in our Post-9/11 world, your own nation's Customs may cause lengthy delays in delivery time.  There is NOTHING we can do to circumvent your country's Customs policies and laws and we will not be held responsible for any problems caused you by Customs.  If you're not in total agreement with us here or disagree for any reason, again, we can only urge you to PLEASE shop elsewhere.LOCAL: We aren't set up to conduct local pickup of ebay merchandise, so if you're in the Los Angeles area, please factor the cost of shipping into your bid/buy strategy.  REGARDING BEST OFFERS...  We'd like to sell 'em cheaper......but MY WIFE won't let me!!!
