The most wonderful antique purse...marked inside frame E. Gauthier .97 Rue Des Petits Champs. Paris...I am assuming the .97 is the date 1897...the fabric is a fine is a needlework tapestry with courting lovers in a French garden on the front and a French scene on the back with a house, tree, road and brook...the work is exquisite...the silver tone frame is spectacular with circles of mother of pearl and flowers done in cut steel sets...pink satin lining inside...in nice condition over ...all considering age...there are quite a few places on the tapestry where it needs to be repaired...there are not holes just the stitches in the needlework are missing in areas...I'm sure this could be fixed by a skilled seamstress...the frame is in great condition with the push pin opening at the top in good working order...there are a few of the cut steel sets missing...the silk lining is in good condition...the bag itself measures about 7" by 7" and is about 12 1/2" long with the chain...such a gorgeous work of art to carry, use for display or add to a collection!
