The title page reads in part : " A History of the American Revolution, and Biographical Sketches of the Military Heroes of the War of Independence. By Charles J. Peterson.  Illustrated with Two Hundred Fine Engravings.  Philadelphia: Published by J. & J. L. Gihon, No. 98 Chesnut Street. 1852."
The book measures 9 1/2 X 6 inches; (8vo); hardcover; full black leather;  blind stamped decorations on boards;  **Rebound - spine recased in modern blac...k leather with gilt stamped letters , decorations & bands**;  boards securely attached;  brown cloth tape repairs over end-papers in inner hinges;  marble end-papers;  small scuffs on spine;  surface losses to leather on boards; losses to leather along edges;  boards nicked,  worn, scratched & rubbed;  edges of boards worn;  losses to leather in upper corner & along upper edge of rear board;  previous owner's inscription in ink on front end-paper; stains,  age toning & foxing spots on frontispiece, title page &  throughout entire contents; text block tight;  487 pages + plates.
Illustrated with several steel engraved plates and wood-engravings in the text.Please see all of the photos included with description for condition and feel free to ask any questions. The book is a scarce publication.  There are no other original printings of this edition available for sale on internet book searches (ABE, ILAB, etc...).  This is an antique printing. It is not a modern re-print.
