Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare 1940's era Turner 101A dual element microphone that was Turners flag ship for about a decade. This was the top of the line studio mic offered that was competition to the Shure 55 Fatboy of that time. You'll see in pic # 2 an old Turner advertisement showing the mic. It came in 3 models. The A model was the entry level 101 with nod adjustable sound.it was set at high imp...edance but had both a ribbon and dynamic element inside. The 101 series was not a cheap mic by any means and not many were sold during their production span making these hard to come by these days. These mics are massive as well and weigh well over 5 pounds. You'll notice right away that the mic is in very good physical condition but it does have it's flaws. The front screen does have a fracture on the bottom right hand side as it was dropped at some point in time. The satin chrome finish is one of the better 101's I have seen being free of pitting or other corrosion. No engravings either. The black cloth screens are evenly colored and look pretty darn good but there is a rip in the cloth as seen in pic # 8. The Turner badge is still very legible despite it'sage and signs of wear. The joint mechanism works perfectly with lots of tension giving the head of the mic any angle needed. The mic is actually 100% complete inside and out and could very well be modified to work again if needed. otherwise it will make a good display or prop mic. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand though a period desk stand is provided. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a very rare cast iron model. It's American but I do not know the brand name as none is provided on it. It's actually the first of it's kind I have ever seen. it's very basic in design but very elegant and compliment the mic nicely. It's made of thick cast iron with a 4 inch chrome riser. It's very heavy and makes a very stable platform for the heavy 101A. The stand had horrible paint on it and was well worn so i sanded it down and applied multiple layers of hammered silver paint with a couple layers of clear coat. The stand looks very nice. I had to apply 4 new felt pads to the bottom. Total dimension with stand and mic is appx 11 inches tall X 5 inches wide and it weighs roughly 10 pounds total. If you demand rare...these mic and stand are just that. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
