“Gone With The Wind” Extremely Rare! I have read that there were only about a hundred first printings and about 10, 000 copies made of May 1936 book and to have a first printing signed by Margaret Mitchell, the author, is very very rare and valuable. Other places say only 5, 000 May 1936 books were made. I also read that Margaret Mitchell only signed about 200 copies of these first books. It is hard to know exactly, but suffice it to say that if you have Margaret Mitchell’s signa...ture on the first printing of one of the most popular books of all time, it is really something. Margaret Michell died in 1949.The pages in the book are very clean for the most part and with no tears.The cover, however, is torn around the edges and someone before me, put tape on part of the binding. So, you may wish to have it restored. I just kept my very beautiful facsimile cover on it, and it covers all that up. This facsimile cover is exactly like the first cover and made by John Anthony Miller, Studio, and it is very nice and it comes with the book.Also included is GWTW “Letter Of Authenticity”, proving this is a genuine signature by Margaret Mitchell on this “Gone With The Wind”, May 1936 edition.It has been appraised at between $4, 000 and $4, 500 for insurance purposes.
