Up for auction here is a VINTAGE OVATION ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC 12-STRING GUITAR W/ ORIGINAL HARDSHELL CASE. Made is USA. This is a MODEL 1538 and I believe it's is from 1983 or 1984. There is some information online. What I gather is these were known as the "Wood Top Adamas" because of the Adamas-style soundholes. But, Adamas guitars have a carbon top. This guitar has M...ONO & STEREO outputs.
^^^What's real good: Beautiful NATURAL WOOD TOP. GOLD PLATED HARDWARE. The NECK IS STRAIGHT and the frets are good. The majority of the finish on the neck, peghead and soundboard is intact and in nice shape. There is NO hump where the fretboard meets the body. There are no cracks near the bridge nor any warping anywhere on the soundboard as is common with older Ovations. The ACTIVE ELECTRONICS WORK(the mono output works perfectly. I can't test the stereo output. But plugging a mono cable in the stereo output gives you 3-strings amplified. So I think it works as well). The case is in rather good shape. No cracks or breaks. All latches and hinges working find. The inside is worn but nice. All the fabric is intact. NEW D'ADDARIO STRINGS!
This guitar <<BOOMS>> and plays very well as far as 12-strings go^^^
vvv What's not so good: One of the tuner caps is missing(see picture) There are a few finish cracks located at the end of the fretboard. The are mostly hidden under the strings when looking from the front. They were hard to photo, but I tried. 1-2 very small nicks on the sound board. There is some tarnish/pitting on the gold plated tuners. But they're still very nice. That's it. vvv
This guitar is beautiful to look at and is an awesome sounding & playing vintage 12-string.
