Vintage Halloween Paper Mache Pulp 5" ORANGE CAT Jack o Lantern 1940's 5"Condition is good with a split in the forehead and another small split in the back. There is wear around the top rim, bottom rim, ears, nose and mouth. There is a black residue on inside bottom which may be residue from a candle. This spooky fellow does not come with the original wire handle, but a string which was replaced by my grandmother many years ago. There is no insert, however... a glassine replacement by Walter Paisley can be found on eBay. Replacements will be correct to the face.Mark B. Ledenbach in Halloween Collectibles states originals will have an indented circle at the bottom, whereas most, if not all, of the reproductios will have a flat bottom. This cat has the indented circle. I, like many love the deep crevices or definition in the paper mache. There is no repainting on the cat and he is altogether a very appealing, friendly, little spook!
