Nice cavalry officer's saber, good overall condition. Displays very well.
Detailed description: Light pitting to top 1/4 of blade. Guard excellent, original leather washer present. Scabbard very good, a few scratches, light pitting to chape.Some movement to guard. Peening of blade to grips untouched, all original (no refurbishment). Small patch of light (easily fixed) corrosion to one side of blade near tip. Kligenthal manufactur...ers marking to spine of blade indistinct. Horn grips. Scabbard throat retaining screw absent, no movement. See pictures as part of description.
Overall a very nice piece, with excellent balance, a nice long, well-shaped blade. Aside from the light pitting to upper blade, has been well cared for and looks fantastic on the wall.
Type used in Civil War, private purchase, used in French Light Cavalry also.
