Here is an early 20th century Austrian made sterling silver and enamel compact. Guilloche is employed for the back. It's quite exquisite. Please see condition above. Hand painted depiction of a swooning couple:body language tells all. They are focused on a book. There is a dog in front of the column the woman sits on as her lover stands up close in an atmospheric landscape flanked by flowers on either side. The silver border on the front is car...ved/etched and embellished with small reddish brown "jewels". The gorgeous blue guilloche on the back is optically rich and tricks the eye:it's hard to describe. It is linear and use of parallel designs make it very interesting. The underside has the same etching in the silver with some black enamel. The "jewels are all in tack there. The length and width are both 2 3/8 ". The thickness is 3/8 ".This is truly a special possession.
