Up for auction is an original 1910s Handel Art Nouveau / Arts and Crafts copper desk lamp. This lamp is beautiful! The lamp stands about 18" tall and is adjustable. I normally don't mess with the patina but when I found it, this lamp had gone far beyond tarnish. I actually had figured it was brass until I started to remove the 100 or so years of corrosion and found that it is actually copper. Given a little bit of time it will start to pick up a brown patina the way a penny does. If yo...u are impatient there are products that you can apply that will instantly tarnish it [I recommend JAX chemicals products]. Don't quote me on this but I believe the bottom is plated copper and the arm is solid copper. Or at least that is what it looks like. The actual bulb socket at the end is copper plated brass with the brass showing through the plating a little. The bottom section is weighted and the lamp is very, very heavy weighing 15 lbs. Now that it has been cleaned up it is in very good condition though it will still need to be rewired. The condition of the cord was a little to far gone for me to risk plugging it in. There's a chance it might be fine as is but again I didn't want to risk it. I could not find any makers marks other than the Hubbell fixture at the end but this is almost certainly a Handel base as it matches the scrolls that are on pretty much every desk lamp they made from that era perfectly. The Hubbell fixture has a slight dent in the top. The shade on it is not original. It's a pretty nice one that I happened to have already and since it fit and looked nice I am including it. If you intend on replacing it with a slag glass shade or something like a traditional green cased glass shade and you don't want this one, please let me know. Without the shade I might be able to ship it in a smaller box which might [or might not] cut back on the shipping cost a little. If have any questions I will do my best to answer. Multiple shipping options available. Good Luck and Happy Bidding.
