For Your Consideration An Antique French Edwardian Era Hand Embroidered Petit Point / Tapestry Hand Bag / Purse dated to around 1910
Description This large hand bag / purse dates to the Edwardian period, around 1910. The smaller petit point bags date to the 1920s and 1930s and thereafter. The Edwardian ones tend to be made in France.The bag is made of an outer hand embroidered fabric with piped satin seams mounted on a brass? frame with a twisted chain handle. The moti...f on both sides is almost identical and shows large flowers: roses, pansies and a lily. The colour of the roses is red on the back and pink on the front. It is deliberate and not due to fading. The bag is lined with orange, raw silk (or a similar fabric).
The bag measures 8.75" (22.5 cm) high (without the chain handle) and 9.25" (23.5 cm) wide.The bag is in very good, clean and usable condition, but it needs a few stitches before it can be used: the bag fabric needs to be re-attached to the frame again in a few places and the small internal pocket on the lining also needs to be re-attached properly again (see last photos). I noticed a small hole/abrasion in the lining (see second last photo). One link in the chain may be a replacement (see last photo). The bag opens and closes fine.
Postage The bag weighs 200g. Packaging and postage via Airmail to the UK will cost £6.50, within Europe £6.90 (7.50 Euro), overseas £7.80 (ca. US$9.50).
