\ Art Deco Whiting and Davis Enamel Beadlite Mesh PurseThis extraordinary Antique mesh purse is made by the famous Whiting and Davis. This type of mesh with rounded links was invented by Whiting and Davis in the 1920s to imitate beaded brass, it is called beadlite and it is more valuable than the flat mesh bags of the same era. Beadlite bags were typically enameled in brightly color geometric art deco patterns, this piece is a perfect example! The colors of this mesh ba are exquisite and include Coral, pink, black and cream. the design is fabulous and classic art deco and repeats on both sides. The frame is silver tone and decorated with an urn and a floral leaf pattern. the clasp is classic kiss style. The chain of this piece is unusual as well, each link is a silver tone metal figure 8! because of the figure 8 links, chain actually moves to naturally forms a zig zag pattern which matches the pattern and the fabulous Zig Zag mesh fringe on the bottom of this purse. This piece was found in a shadow box frame with the enclosed hankie-which is signed with the name of the original owner 'WILHELMINA WOODFILL"This piece is signed Whiting and Davis Co. Mesh bags inside the frame on both sides.. Roughly Measures 6 3/4" x 4" including frame and clasp. Chain drop is 5 1/2". This piece is in very good vintage condition. The enamel colors are still strong. The silver metal frame has a natural patina but is in good shape, The clasp closes nice and tight. This is a true collectors piece and a exquisite example of art deco by Whiting and Davis!
