Iconic 1 silver key baroque boxwood flute with 5 nicely turned natural material rings. Left hand, right hand, and footjoint sections all marked "E. Baack" above "N - York". Edward Baack, born in Hamburg, Germany came to New York in about 1832 and was in partnership as "Baack & Paulus" in 1837. He was listed in a directory as a maker 1864 - 1872. His commercial premises housed a retail store below his workshop and home.Headjoint is marked "E" above "Potter" above "London". This woul...d be either Richard Potter (b.1726, d.1806) or his son, Wm. H. Potter (b.1760, d.1848).Overall length -- 59cm. Length mid-embouchure hole to bottom of footjoint -- 51.1cm. A = about 445+Embouchure hole and toneholes appear to be original and unaltered.Body of flute has no cracks to wood or rings.Headjoint has very fine crack to crown and 3 repaired cracks to lower ring, and 2 repaired cracks to wood at lower part of headjoint. Crown and crown ring are replacements.D# key, spring, and pad are fine.Comes with fitted case.A good looking instrument and a piece of musical history.
