For sale is a rare Early State/First Edition of Pickwick Papers, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1837. A complete suite of plates by Phiz. 624p.p. Many of Smith’s points here present.Bound in fine tan calf over marbled boards. To the spine are raised bands, finely tooled in gilt, and the title in gilt to a morocco label. Original endpapers and page edges.Externally the spine and boards are largely bright, with only occasional light extraneous wear, commens...urate with age, in places.Internally it is refreshingly very clean, and and one of the brightest examples we have handled. The plates have the predictable odd spot/toning in places.Overall, to find an example of this title is indeed rare, particularly bound in such a pleasing binding and in a very early state.
