This is for a nice old Victorian brass skirt lifter from the late 1800s. The skirt lifter was used by ladies with full skirts who tried to avoid getting their skirts dirty and sometimes for ladies who played sports. The lifter has a nice large decorative top that has a swan on one side and a bird and flowers on the reverse. The top slides down the hinged handle and opens the two round grips, slide it back up and they return back together gripping the cloth. The grips are decorated... with flowers and the swan side has a Victorian registration lozenge but it impossible to date. It is all in excellent condition with no damage to the lifter, there are no dents to the metal, just surface wear to the metal and pads. It measures 130mm (5") tall x 38mm (1.5") across at the top.
