1962 Printing. As part of the push towards mastery of the sciences in the early 1960's, Golden Book published this Encyclopedia of Natural Science. The subtitle on the cover of each volume is "A world survey of birds, mammals, insects, fish, flowers, trees, rocks, stars and all other fields of natural history". A typical page has two or three articles with one or two fairly accurate color drawings that define elements of the organic and inorganic natural history of North Amer...ica. The tone is informative, not conversational. The articles are written at the reading levels for children between perhaps age 10 through adult. Over six thousand alphabetic entries in 16 volumes and 1389 pages. Illustrated in color.
