This is the story of Lovey, the bo...red, precocious and rebellious daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Willingham Lewis of Philadelphia. Lovey does not want to accept the life she has been given - the life of a spoiled girl from a rich family. She wants to break out, wants to find her own way through life. When her father dies in a hunting accident, she sees a first chance - she escapes from the posh college and must witness at home, like her mother after a delicate affair. she had started a relationship with Lovey's schoolmate-being sent to a mental hospital, where she was dawning in annoyance. Lovey does not want to lead the useless life of the fine people in Philadelphia, and she finds the football star and playboy Sky Childs, who kidnaps her into a life of scandals and excesses. Lovey and Sky are a young, handsome couple that enjoys its popularity - they make headlines. As the carefree cheerfulness of this togetherness turns serious, it comes to separation. In front of the divorce lawyer in Reno - and in the arms of a reporter - this episode ends in Lovey's life. Disgusted with herself and her environment, she returns to Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, the economic situation in the US has deteriorated - the twenties are coming to an end, Black Friday is just around the corner - and Lovey has only one way to prevent the sale of her home: she marries her wealthy cousin. So she has achieved exactly what she wanted to avoid. And to the end of her life she will now be a support to the fine company of Philadelphia.FROM WIKIPEDIA:John Henry O'Hara (January 31, 1905 – April 11, 1970) was an American writer. He earned a reputation first for short stories and became a best-selling novelist by the age of thirty with Appointment in Samarra and BUtterfield 8. He was particularly known for an uncannily accurate ear for dialogue. O'Hara was a keen observer of social status and class differences, and wrote frequently about the socially ambitious.A controversial figure, O'Hara had a reputation for personal irascibility and for cataloging social ephemera, both of which frequently overshadowed his gifts as a storyteller. Writer Fran Lebowitz called him "the real F. Scott Fitzgerald." John Updike, one of his consistent supporters, grouped him with Chekhov in a C-SPAN interview.OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
