Modification Description: Rebuilt by AI-TST Inc | Model: Compact 100 |
What Happened: I purchased these 5 years ago and there was damage to the circuit board on one of the units. VTL is well known for the exceptional quality of their ...Transformers and I got a good deal, so I purchased them and set about rebuilding them. I've been a Hi-Fi and tube fan since I was a kid and have owned lots of classics like Audio Research, VTL, Dynaco, Conrad Johnson and Stromberg Carlson. I just think tubes sound better.
What I did: I modified the circuit to be fully balanced because I have a fully balanced source and I love the symmetry of fully balanced designs. You get natural cancelling of noise and distortion with minimum feedback. As such the input is an XLR and the output floats with respect to the chassis. I had custom, high quality PCBs manufactured and rebuilt both power amps using them. The input tubes are smooth plate ECC83 Telefunkens, the driver tubes are GE 6CG7's and the output tubes are KT77 Gold Lion reissues. The have about 50 hours of use. A schematic is available. It can be used single ended with an adapter but frankly I don't believe you will enjoy the full intended effect.
About me: I'm an Electrical Design Engineer who spent most of his career designing in flight entertainment gear for Private Aircraft. I have designed amplifiers, speakers and A/V switching gear for a Who's-who of Corporations, Head of State and the rich and famous. I also run my own small business manufacturing pro audio gear. This amp was my own personal amp for the last several years and I have enjoyed it immensely. I have a full lab of the necessary gear it takes to properly tweak this type of gear so fell sure it was properly built and tested. You can find my FB page as TST amplification
Why I'm selling it: I have a personal motto of "Everything I own is for sale" and I just don't seem to have the time to sit and listen. I'm sure someone else will enjoy it too.
If you're not sure please ask!: I'm not a Salesman, I'm an Engineer, so I'm sure there's all sorts of things I forgot to say or do. I would rather not sell it than sell it and have an unhappy customer. I'm open to trades.....
