Early antique brass lens; "E. Suter, Basle, No. 5824, Aplanat B No.5" brass lens with slot for Waterhouse Stops, with more recent wood lens boards and tube.
Additional markings; "Allen Bros. Sole Agents".
The spelling of Basel on the lens is Basle, that is a correct spelling of Basel.
Total height of the brass lens; 4 inches.
Front of lens measures 2 1/4 inches.
Rear lens measures 2 1/4 inches.
The wood lens boards measures 3 3/4 inches square and 3 1/4 in...ches square.The lens board and tube measure 4 1/2 inches tall.Total height with lend and tube; approximately 7 1/2 inches.
The brass lens only weighs 14.4 ounces.
Just as I found it, antique untouched condition with patina. Some dark marks/stains to the brass. Some normal wear the the edges of the lens, nothing bad at all.
The front and back glass lens appear to be in great condition.
