I have here for sale a beautifully illustrated set of four books entitled OEUVRES COMPLETES DE BUFFON, avec la nomenclature Linneenne et la classification de Cuvier. Revues sur l'edition in-4to de l'imprimerie royale et annotees par M Flourens. Nouvelle edition illustree de 60 planches gravees sur acier d'apres les dessins de M Travies et M Henry Gobin, et coloriees avec le plus grand soin. 58 colour plates and two plates in black and white. The colour plates have been highlighted with... gum Arabic which really brings them to life - excellent!Published by Garnier Freres in Paris around 1850 but no date stated. There are four volumes for sale here, covering the Animal Kingdom - the set of four volumes covering the Bird Kingdom are for sale on Ebay elsewhere. Vol I - Theorie de la Terre, Histoire Generale des Animaux; xxxvi, 684 pages; plate of Buffon in black and white; 5 colour plates including mapsVol II - L'Homme, Les Quadrupedes; 667 pages; plate of Adam and Eve in black and white; 22 colour plates mainly of animalsVol III - Les Quadrupedes; 597 pages; 19 colour plates of animalsVol IV - Les Singes, Additions Les Quadrupedes; 680 pages; 12 colour plates of animals27 cm x 19 cm. Quarter bound in thick red leather on marbled hardboards, with five raised bands on the spine, panels inbetween and gilt decoration. Title in gilt lettering. Marbled endpapers. There are library labels for Haileybury College, on the inside front board of each volume - but there are no library marks on any other page or even the plates, which is good news. Sporadic foxing to the text pages which is annoying but it does not detract from the enjoyment, and the foxing does not affect any of the plates.Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK. If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them into one parcel - so you save money. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
