I have here for sale a superbly illustrated book entitled A NEW AND COMPLETE HISTORY OF ENGLAND, FORM THE FIRST SETTLEMENT OF BRUTUS, UPWARDS OF ONE THOUSAND YEARS BEFORE JULIUS CAESAR TO THE YEAR 1798, ALSO BIOGRAPHICAL ANECDOTES OF ADMIRALS, GENERALS, STATESMENT, PATRIOTS, HISTORIANS, ORATORS ETC. By Charles Alfred Ashburton, published by W and J Stratford of 112 Holborn Hill in London. There should be 80 plates in the book, but there are only 76 plates in the book now - the map of I...reland is missing and three others. The title reads '1798' but it is really '1793'.There are some great images here such as Captain Bligh and his crew landing at Timor, General Wolfe dying at Quebec, and a number of very good naval battle scenes.Quarter bound in brown leather on plain brown hardboards, five gilt bands on the spine and black gilt title labels, worn and rubbed with front board pulling. Pages are all tightly bound in except for the title page and the Frontispiece. 38 cm by 25 cm. 946 pages, Index, List of Subscribers. The first 20 pages have all been trimmed at some time, presumably because the edges were damaged, so the edges are now cleanly cut but less wide than the rest. Some of the plates and the pages have been professionally repaired. Whatever the faults, this is at the very least a collection of 76 eighteenth century prints measuring 38 cm by 25 cm.Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK. If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them into one parcel - so you save money. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
