EastmanKodak Co.No.3-A Film Premo Camera3¼X 5½” Offeredhere (and shown in the accompanying photos)isa folding camera made in theUSA by Eastman Kodak between 1908 and 1916.Itwas built to produce postcard-sizednegativeson 3¼ X 5½”, No.1 filmpacks.Cosmetically, this camera is challenged by the missing and failing leatheronthe outside of the bed and the back. Which is too bad because thebellows and shutter are both in good shape and display well. Idid also notice that two of t...he small screws that hold the focusrail to the bed are missing, the strap is present but brokenand the round “Premo” inset in the top of the camera is missing. On the good side: Theshutter seems to be fine; all adjustments are smooth and positive theshutter fires at all speeds. The shutter is marked in US Stops (adifferent method of measuring the lens aperture – google it) andhas a built-in exposure counter (it counts 1 to 12). The Bausch &Lomb Planatograph 6¾”(171mm) f/8 lens appears to be clean and clear. The bellows displaywell and may be light-tight (un-tested) and the camera opens andcloses like it ought to.Themost amazing thing about this particular camera – in my opinion - is the absolutely perfect air rubber squeeze bulb and tube. It isoriginal to the camera though it feels like it was made 5 years ago –not 105 years ago. I've seen literally thousands of these camerasin my day and I’ve only seen a few that had bulbs this fine.Honestly, this air bulb and tube are worth the opening bid by themselves.I don’t understand how a camera whose leather coverings came tosuch an ignominious end could have a bellows and bulb this nice.Pleaselook at the photos!Becauseit hasn’t been tested, andbecause of anything I may have missed– (it hadn’t been openedin more than 50 years when I took the photos you see here) - I amselling it ASISfordisplay or restoration. It mightbe easy to get this old gem ready for action, but it might not.
