Item History & Price

Over the next several weeks I will be selling my nineteenth century sword collection. For sale is an Ames model 1833 dragoon saber made for the U.S. Cavalry. This is an original sword and scabbard. The reference in Peterson’s “American Sword” is #31, the entry is shown (but not included). The blade is marked on the obver...se side: N.P. Ames/Cutler/Springfield/1837. The inspector’s mark “JM” is present. The blade is marked on the obverse side: United States. The brass ferrule on the grip is marked “WS”. The scabbard is marked on the drag in two lines: HKC/ORD. The grip is brass with leather wrapped with wire. There is a portion of the grip missing at the rear, but it appears to be old damage. The grip is tight. The scabbard is dented as shown, but has the correct markings. Please contact me with any questions.
