Large square octavo binding of embossed decorative morocco leather with central gilt circular design titled "Album of Memory", published by Leavitt and Allen, featuring engraved plates and colored paper. The album has 19 pages filled out, mostly to Mary Gethen of New York City, dated 1861-65. Highlights include a dedicatory poem with a detailed calligraphic border, and a full page poem titled "God Save the Union" decorated wi...th American flag clippings, a pen and ink drawing of an eagle, and two tipped in albumen photographs of Civil War soldiers in uniform. Many of the signers were men who likely went off to war shortly afterwards; likely those depicted in the photographs signed the book as well. Spine missing, rubbing to covers. [3357]
