The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien; 2nd edition, Houghton Mifflin, HC DJ very good condition (see photos). Light green cloth boards, blue titles. Binding is straight and tight, no bumped corners. Clipped dust jacket is VG - VG+ with Brodart covering to protect (but not taped to jacket). Endpaper are maps. Gift inscription.
This is a hard-to-find 2nd edition before the truly mass printed 3rd editions and beyond.
20th printing, likely 1965. The 5th through the 23...rd printings are considered 2nd editions.
2nd editions contain the original description of the revised edition, beginning with, "In this reprint several minor inaccuracies..." 2nd editions have 315 numbered pages3rd edition forward, on the other hand, describes the runic characters seen on the maps and in the text.
