Hardback book in dustwrapper "Pal Joey" by John O'Hara, published by the Cresset Press in 1952. Ex library copy with mark on back panel of dustwrapper where a paper label has been removed, back of dustwrapper has old sellotape at top and bottom edge (it isn't torn, the tape was just for reinforcement). Some shelf-wear to bottom edge of red boards, gilt library emblem on front board; paper labels inside front board and on f/ep, ink stamp on f/ep and on rev of title page, old... sellotape on front and back hinges (front is just starting to split but the back is still tight), some yellowing to the pages, otherwise not quite as bad as it sounds. A story, told in letter form, of a second-rate Chicago nightclub entertainer. Originally published in serial form in the "New Yorker" magazine in 1940, this is the first UK edition. The 1940 musical of the same name was based on the book, as was the 1957 film starring Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak. 125pp.
