Written by John Pearson and published by the Surrey Centennial Committee, Cloverdale, British Columbia. There is no copyright or printing date, but the message from THE CORPORATION OF THE DISTRICT OF SURREY is dated the 9th of May, 1958.There are several black and white photo illustration plates in the text.
DESCRIPTION: 159 pages 9 x 6 incheshardcover with dustjacket CONDITION:This hard-cover book is in very good condition... with a good dustjacket. The blue cloth hardcover is clean and shows light wear at the corners and spine ends. There is a name and address in ink on both sides of the upper corner of the front endpaper. The interior is otherwise excellent with no names, marks, underlining, tears or odor. The paper shows little to no age toning. The hinges and binding are excellent with no loose or missing pages. The dustjacket is complete but has some small tears and creases along the upper and lower edges. It is rubbed and worn at the edges and corners. From the dust jacket description:ABOUT THE AUTHOR: ”Remember your native land as the Mother who reared you, but embrace and cherish your adopted land as a young bride.”That was a message from the Archbishop of Sweden, handed the young emigrant as he boarded the S.S. United States for a journey to a new and unknown world.John Pearson did not find it difficult to love his adopted British Columbia for in many respects it resembled his native province of Jamtland.This now land also offered greater opportunities than his native land and he soon became profitably engaged in the building and construction industry.In common with may of the landed immigrants, he possessed only a meager knowledge of english and the history books on B.C. became the textbooks in his effort to learn the new tongue. I will ship books in a priority mail flat rate envelope which is more reasonable, but only works for small or average sized books. I carefully pad the book and wrap it in cardboard as long as it fits. I have successfully shipped dozens of books via this method. Unfortunately, some books are too large or too heavy for this method and must be shipped in a priority medium flat rate box. A small handling fee ($1.50 US or less) per international shipment will be charged in addition to the USPS shipping fee.
