The book (8vo) is bound in half calf with marble covered boards, with spine decorative gilt spine in six compartments divided by raised bands, gilt lettering pieces on black? leather label to compartment two; boards are rubbed and scratched with scuffs to edges and extremities; spine is is scuffed; joints are tender.Inside:
As always with a Dickens, there is foxing, brown blemishes, marks and blotchy toning to the plates, to varying degrees, which are rarely transferring to the surrounding page, with a small, dark brown stain to the upper margin of the frontispiece and engraved title; text pages are largely clean, with just very occasional minor handling marks and blemishes to margins and a small stain which looks like tea or coffee centre of the outer margin at pages 32 to 54 and faint toning to margins intermittently.The book is complete with 39 leaves of plate, as called for, plus one engraved title page not listed in the directions to the binder, all free of any rips or tears.There is the occasional minor marginal nick or tear.The final 20 pages or so, are all straining slightly at the gutter. The rear inner hinge is weak.
The book measures 22 cm x 14.5 cm and weighs 1.050kg This book will be sent by registered mail.
