I have here for sale a book entitled THE ANNUAL REGISTER or a View of the History, Politics, and Literature for the Year 1792 published by Otridge et al in 1799 on behalf of Dodsley. The Annual Register had experienced editorial issues and it took seven years for the proprietor (Edmund Burke) to get 1792 into print - possibly due to his massive workload. The Preface gives a seven page apology for lateness! This edition features a wide range of subjects and papers including the War... in India where Tippoo Sultan raises his standard against the Nizam and Travancore, the British get involved, the Mahrattas kick off, battle, siege, manoeuvre, Seringapatam battle, siege, lift the siege; the British return next year and Seringapatam falls and Tippoo Sultan goes to a warrior's death (196-226). Back in Europe, the French have had a Revolution, formed some massive untrained but hugely motivated armies which manage to defeat the mercenary armies of the Old Monarchies - Light blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Canterbury Free Library sticker on the front endpaper.
