On July 31, 1945 a Japanese submarine stalked, attacked andfired six torpedoes at the USS Indianapolis. The ship was hit with two torpedoes and sank in 12 minutes. The “Indy” had just delivered components ofthe atomic bomb and was in transit to her next duty station in thePhilippines. Due to the secret nature ofher voyage and bureaucratic snafus, the... ship was not reported as missing. Of the crew of 1200 men, some 900 survivorswent into the Pacific waters with no food, shelter, medical supplies or freshwater. Only 317 survived the terrible ordeal. This is the story of Edgar Harrell, one of thesurvivors.
