Up for your consideration is my personal collection of mid-century maps.  These were printed over 4 years from 1955-1959 by The Times over in Great Britain.  These are EXTREMELY high-end maps for a "book".  They are bound in a way that the center of the 2-page maps are held together in a single piece of paper, thus suitable to be removed and framed.  Each page is a massive 19"x12", meaning the large maps are a bit over 2 feet long and 19" tall.  There are 120 o...f these massive 2' long plates.  Again, very expensive maps.  The original price was $125 for the set in the 1950's, which translates to over $1, 000 in today's money.  A serious investment.  Also keep in mind the high-density paper.  The set weighs in excess of 30lbs.
This is a set of 5 books all in very good condition.  Bright pages and the dust jackets have protected the bright red covers well.  I've included the maximum allowed amount of photos ebay allows so please look closely and feel free to ask for any specific ones you'd like to see.  
Even at the equivalent of over $1, 000 cost in modern times, The Times is still in existence printing maps because they are known as the best quality and a real investment.  From their website:  
The Times Atlas has been published for over a hundred years and is regarded as the world’s most prestigious and authoritative atlas.  The first ever Times atlas was published in 1895 and simply called The Times Atlas, with maps produced by the German firm Velhagen & Klasing.

In 1826, John Bartholomew set up business as a map engraver in Edinburgh and soon gained an international reputation for innovative cartography, high quality copper plate engraving and printing. The Times Publishing Co Ltd thus contracted Bartholomew to prepare a major, new, home produced, world atlas which became The Times Survey Atlas & Gazetteer of the World (1922). This was the beginning of the long running association between Bartholomew and the Times. A series of universally acclaimed atlases followed, including The Times Handy Atlas (1935), The Times Atlas of the World, Mid-Century Edition (1955-59), The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World (1967), The Times Atlas of the Moon (1969) and The Times Concise Atlas of the World (1972).
