Up for purchase is an 1854 Crimea Medal. Issued to British soldiers who fought in the Crimean War against Russia from 1854-1856. A total of 275, 000 medals were awarded. This medal features three battle clasps. These are Sebastopol, Balaklava, and Alma. The medal is named to Andrew Mason, of the 42nd Royal Highlander Regiment (The Black Watch). The edge of the medal is stamped "1309 Andrew Mason 42nd Royal Highlanders". From my research, Mr. Mason was a private during the war.&nbs...p;I believe this medal is what as known as a "rename". This means that the original owner of the medal sold it to another soldier who was entitled to the medal, and his information was stamped on it.
