Anthuriums with rough-textured (rugose) leaves are very scarce, and they always catch my eye. Anthurium bernalii adds another layer of appeal - a contrasting maroon-red petiole - and the overall effect is really striking. This very beautiful and VERY rare species was discovered relatively recently and not described until 2009. It seems to grow well at temperatures from the low-40s through the low-90s, though cooler temperatures are preferred. In my experience, Anthuriums with rugose leaves tend to prefer high humidity, and I grow A. bernalii near my evaporative cooling system in a section of the greenhouse that tends to remain humid. This species requires a potting mix that holds moisture but doesn't stay too soggy. I use loosely packed sphagnum moss, which seems to work well.This is a very unusual opportunity to own a beautiful and very rare Anthurium!
