Beautiful antique and rare bronze medal of Portuguese navigator D. Henrique. This medal has been made by the famous Portuguese sculptor Vasco Berardo.Only 500 were produced, this being the 280.
The medal shows in the main side a figure of the navigator D. Henrique, a ship and navigation instruments. The reverse shows a brief description about the navigator represented, its history and achievments in the navigation in the period of the Maritime discoveries, with the inscription...: "Son of D. João I and D. Filipa de Lencastre, was born in the port on March 4 of 1394, died in Sagres, where he had established in 1438 the famous School of astronomy, cosmography and nautical, on November 13 of 1460. To him owes much of the epic of the discoveries, and the presence of Portugal in the world".The measures are: 9 cm high (3.54 inches), and 6 cm (2.36 inches) width. Weigh 195 grams (6.87 oz).
