Beautiful antique and rare bronze medal of Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias. This medal has been made by the famous Portuguese sculptor Vasco Berardo.Only 500 were produced, this being the 280.The medal shows in the main side a figure of the navigator Bartolomeu Dias, and a ship on the back. The reverse shows a brief description about the navigator represented, its history and achievments in the navigation in the period of the Maritime discoveries, with the inscription: "Commander ...of a fleet of three caravels, traveled the African coast, doubled the Cape of storms, then called Good Hope cape, and thus discovered the passage from the Atlantic ocean to the Indico ocean (1487-1488). He died in 1500 when the caravel of which he was the captain, integrated in the armada of Pedro Alvares Cabral, sank in the stormy waters of the Cape by himself exceeded. The date of his birth is unknown.".The measures are: 9 cm high (3.54 inches), and 6 cm (2.36 inches) width. Weigh 195 grams (6.87 oz).
